Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe left for Singapore Wednesday for a scheduled medical review with his doctors in Asia.
“His excellency the President left this morning for Singapore for a scheduled medical review. We expect him back in the country early next week” said the Presidential Spokesman George Charamba told the state media
The Vice-President of Zimbabwe Phelekezela Mphoko will be the acting President during President Mugabe’s absence. According to NewsDay, Government business comes to a standstill whenever the President is away. Cabinet has met on three occasions since his return including this week before another jaunt.
Mugabe leaves a two week doctors’ strike that is calling for the government to pay their 2016 bonuses. Critics say Mugabe routine medical trips are enough evidence that the local health system is unreliable according to the New Zimbabwe.
