Chad’s President Idriss Deby is set to be sworn in on Monday for a fifth term in power. African heads of States are in Chad for the inauguration, they include Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame.
64-year-old Deby came to power in 1990, won the presidential election in his country in April this year for the 5th time.
The Chad government banned opposition rallies planned for the weekend, ahead of Monday’s swearing-in ceremony today.
However, the opposition went ahead with the protest, leading to the death of one person from a live bullet shot by the security forces. The opposition is expected to hold more protests today according to African News.
