In Kenya, a major infrastructure deal has been signed between the national treasury and the Chinese government.
China Exim Bank will be providing a loan of 225 million US dollars to open up the eastern part of the country by upgrading the Kibwezi – Kitui highway. It is a three phase project which aims to complete 472 kilometers of road network that will eventually link the east with the northern part of the country, as well as act as a gateway to Southern Ethiopia. The eastern part of Kenya which is home to over 5 million people has severely lagged behind in terms of infrastructure. Its hoped this project will change that.
Kenya’s ministry of infrastructure says construction is due to start on the 6th of December and will take 36 months to complete.
