Gambia’s security forces have entered the building of the Independent Electoral Commission, instructed its chairman to leave and barred other employees from entering, according to the commission chairman.
The electoral commission chairman, Alieu Momar Njai said that the military came to his office and asked him not to touch anything instructing him to leave, stating that he is worried for his safety, ALJAZEERA reports
West African heads of state began arriving in Gambia Tuesday with an aim of convincing President Yahya Jammeh to relinquish power after losing election in December.
The delegation is headed by Liberian Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Other delegations include Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Sierra Leone leader Ernest Bai Koroma and outgoing Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
