Gambian President Reshuffles Cabinet After Coup


The president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh has effected a minor Cabinet reshuffle that has seen the appointment of Lamin Nyabally, deputy secretary general as the new secretary general, head of the Civil Service and Presidential Affairs minister, replacing Dr Kalidu Bayo. It also saw Basirou VP Mahoney relieved of his portfolio as Attorney General and minister of Justice.

The full text of the release reads: “The President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, acting under section 71 (4) b of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has decided to relieve Dr Kalidu Bayo of his Cabinet appointment as secretary general, minister of Presidential Affairs and Civil Service, and Mr. Basirou VP Mahoney as Attorney General and minister of Justice with effect from Thursday, 8th Jan 2015.

In the same vein, His Excellency the President of the Republic, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, acting under provisions of 71 (1) and 71 (3) of the Constitution of the Republic has effected the following appointment with effect from Thursday, 8th January, 2015.

1. Mr. Lamin Nyabally as secretary general, minister of Presidential Affairs and Civil Service.

2. Dr. Abubacarr Senghore, minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology as the overseeing minister of Justice.
