A Kenyan Member of Parliament has called upon women in the country to deny their partners sex unless they have registered as voters.

Local media outlet Standard reports Mishi Mboko, the women representative for Mombasa county in the country’s coastal region, to have urged women to withhold conjugal duties from partners who are yet to register as voters.

The country’s electoral authority is conducting a month-long voter registration exercise, and says it is targeting to register about six million new voters.

Kenya will hold its general elections in August.

Ealier, bar and hotel owners from Murang’a county in the country’s central region said they would not allow anyone without a voters card purchase alcohol.

As the elections draw closer, the East African nation’s opposition is working to form an alliance to face President Uhuru Kenyatta who will be running for his second and final term.
